Hi, I'm Randy, the voice behind Roaming Randy (maybe someday I'll come up with a better name for it). Like many of you, I've always felt an undeniable pull towards exploration and discovering new horizons. I'm also a bit of a geo-geek (GIS), programmer/developer, and photography enthusiast, which adds an extra layer of the reasoning behind this blog. I love the idea of sharing my solo travel experiences and connecting with others who share this passion.

My earliest travel memories are filled with the excitement of family road trips out west, where I was mesmerized by the majestic mountains of Colorado, the vibrant colors of Arizona sunsets, and the dazzling spectacle of Las Vegas. And let's not forget those thrilling annual trips to Cedar Point - a tradition that definitely ueled my love for adventure! These formative experiences instilled in me a deep appreciation for the joy and wonder that travel brings.

As I grew older, travel remained a constant in my life, whether it was unwinding on relaxing beach getaways, soaking in the vibrant culture of New York City with its captivating live theatre scene, or chasing adrenaline rushes at various amusement parks. These trips, often shared with loved ones, continued to shape my understanding of the world.

Then, around the mid-2010s, a new dimension of travel began to intrigue me: going solo. My annual "cathartic" New Year's Eve trips to New York City, just me and the energy of the city, along with some independent work-related travel, opened my eyes to the unique sense of freedom and self-discovery that comes with traveling alone.

Like many, the events of the pandemic prompted a deeper look at my priorities. With the world opening up again, I found myself increasingly drawn to the idea of independent exploration. That initial taste of solo travel in NYC had sparked a genuine desire to see more of the world on my own terms. I haven't looked back since taking that leap.
