Welcome, Fellow Adventurers!

Or maybe I should say, future adventurers? If you’ve ever felt that pull to explore the world but haven’t always had a travel buddy handy, then you’re in the right place. I’m Randy, and I’m so excited to embark on this journey of sharing my experiences and discoveries in the world of solo travel.

My love affair with travel started early, thanks to some cherished childhood memories. I was lucky enough to grow up with family road trips out west, exploring the towering mountains of Colorado, the fiery sunsets of Arizona, and even the bright lights of Las Vegas. And who could forget the annual pilgrimage to Cedar Point throughout the 1990s and 2000s? Those early adventures really planted a seed, showing me the excitement and joy that comes from seeing new places.

As I got older, that initial spark never faded. Whether it was taking regular trips to the beach for some much-needed relaxation, hopping on a bus (or eventually driving) to New York City to immerse myself in the magic of live theatre, or chasing thrills at various amusement parks, travel has always been a significant part of my life. These trips, often with friends or family, continued to fuel my passion for exploration.

The Dawn of (My) Solo Travel

The idea of traveling solo really took hold in the mid-2010s. I started taking an annual trip to New York City around New Year’s Eve, specifically to catch a Broadway show and wander around Central Park. There’s something so special about experiencing the energy of the city and the brilliance of live theatre on your own terms. These trips, along with some independent work travel, opened my eyes to the unique joys and freedom of solo exploration.

Like many, the pandemic shifted my perspective on a lot of things. Once travel started to become feasible again, I found myself drawn more and more to traveling by myself. That initial taste in NYC had blossomed into a real desire to explore more of the world, and I realized that waiting for the perfect travel companion might mean missing out on incredible opportunities. So, I took the plunge, and I haven’t looked back!

Why this Blog?

So, why this blog? While I’ll certainly be sharing practical tips and insights I gather along the way, the heart of this blog will be about sharing my personal experiences as I navigate the world solo. Think of it as your virtual travel buddy, joining me on my adventures, from the exhilarating highs of conquering a new hiking trail to the sometimes-awkward but always memorable moments of dining alone in a new city.

I want to offer a window into my solo journeys, sharing the good, the challenging, and everything in between. My hope is that by sharing my own story – the moments of awe, the lessons learned, and the sheer joy of independent exploration – I can inspire you to consider your own solo adventures, no matter how big or small. Ultimately, this blog is about connection through shared experiences and the understanding that comes from seeing the world through someone else’s eyes (and maybe even sparking your own wanderlust!).
